Amin Anta leaked tape is irrelevant to NPP elections - Kweku Baako

Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako has described as irrelevant, a leaked tape involving Amin Anta and an unidentified person discussing internal party politics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said contents of the leaked tape will not have any effect on the NPP's National Delegates' Conference slated for Saturday, October 18.

Speaking on Peace FMs 'Kokrokoo' the veteran journalist said delegates who will be voting on Saturday have already made up their minds and that with or without the tape, Nana Akufo-Addo will garner the votes he deserves.

His comments follow a secret audio recording circulating, which is purported to have the voice of Amin Anta confessing to some unknown person that Nana Akufo-Addo offered him $5,000 in order for him to openly campaign for him.

The former Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale was also heard on the tape saying that Nana Akuo-Addo also offered him three positions to choose from if he joined his camp.

But Mr Baako said the comments, if even true could not have happened because Nana Akufo-Addo has no need to offer money to anyone to campaign for him.

He said he could have just sat in his home and won the primaries because his supporters are willing to campaign on his behalf.

Mr Baako however said he doubted if revelations on the tape resonated with recent elections and that Amin Anta should provide further particulars in relation to the tape.

Amin Anta
Meanwhile Amin Anta has spoken about the leaked tape saying “I have listened to the tape carefully and concluded that the voice is like mine and I might have made such statements in a private conversation but I would like to put on record however that Nana Addo did not offer me money to induce me to support his candidature”.

He however indicated that Nana Akufo-Addo had previously offered him money for an energy project he had embarked upon at his [Nana Akufo-Addo's] request.

He said even though he rejected the money, Nana Akufo-Addo insisted that it was from his heart and that if he [Amin Anta] did not have use for it, his team members did.

He indicated that “contrary to contents of the tape, that I would not openly campaign for him, I recently declared my support for him openly in Tamale and in addition toured more than 10 constituencies in Dagbon to openly campaign for him with my own resources”.

Mr Anta concluded that his support for Nana Akufo-Addo is unconditional and that he will continue to work with him to ensure victory for 2016.
