Police Hospital Visits Cells

IGP Mohammed Alhassan
The Public Health Department of the Police Hospital has embarked on its periodic visitation to police cells to attend to the health concerns of suspects in custody.

The team, which is led by DSP Julius Yankson started the exercise in August, and has visited many cells, DSP Cephas Arthur, Director of

Public Affairs said in a statement.
The visit is even more crucial at this time when there is an outbreak of cholera in the country.

It would serve to protect inmates against the disease and other communicable ones.

It must be emphasized that this is only an additional step taken at regular intervals by the police to cater for the health needs of suspects in their custody, as suspects who fall sick are taken to police and government medical facilities as a normal practice.

'We would want to assure the public that every effort is made by the police to take care of all the needs, including health needs of detainees in accordance with Police Service Instruction Regulation 171,' the statement said.
