Volta NPP Chairmen Hail Akufo-Addo

This came to light when all the 26 Chairmen lined up and made statements suggesting they were in favour of the candidature of Nana Addo and his running mate, Dr. Bawumia. The declarations were made at a delegates' meeting in Ho, the regional capital, last Monday.

The 20, who constitute the majority, noted that they would harness all their resources to ensure that Nana Akufo-Addo is retained as the presidential candidate of the NPP in the 2016 elections.

Endorsements
The Volta Regional Chairman, John Peter Amewu, also openly declared his support for Nana Addo when he said, 'I am for Nana.'

He called on all party members to do same because Nana Addo is currently 'the most popular and marketable' among the seven candidates contesting for the flagbearership position.

He was optimistic that the Super Delegates' Conference on Sunday, August 31, will only go to confirm that.

The former Volta Regional Chairman, Kenwuud Nuworsu, who had been linked to the Alan Kyerematen camp, also pledged his support for Nana Addo when the former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, openly inquired from him.

Sir John said although he was aware that Kenwwud did not vote for him during the National Delegates' Conference in Tamale earlier this year, the former regional chairman had assured him of his vote for Nana in the NPP leadership race.

Education In Disarray
Nana Addo, who was accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, bemoaned the dwindling status of Ghana's educational system under the Mahama administration. He was particularly concerned about the historic poor performance of candidates who sat for the 2014 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Over 72 percent of the students who sat for the exams did not qualify for admission into any university. A little over 28 percent of the students obtained grades A1 to C6 in six of the subjects they wrote, including Mathematics and English Language.

The results are reportedly the worst since 1993.
