First Ghanaian Elected To International Humanist Organisation

Roslyn Mould from Accra, is the first Ghanaian to be elected to the International Humanist and Ethical Youth Organisation (IHEYO). Despite a record number of nominations this year, Ms Mould now holds the position of Secretary of the African Working Group, whose President is Ugandan Kato Mukasa.

Ms Mould stated, β€œIt's a great pleasure to be elected for this position and I am grateful to the Humanist Association of Ghana and international humanists for their unflinching support. I am excited to use this opportunity to promote human rights, the philosophy of humanism and to represent freethinking Africans positively.”

The IHEYO is the youth section of the International Humanist and Ethical Union which is the international umbrella organisation for humanist groups worldwide.

The Youth Organisation is devoted to spreading humanism among young people, strengthening humanist youth organisations, providing education and training, building organisational capacity and providing networking and information sharing.

Although there have been informal links between Ghana and other Humanist groups across Africa since the West African Conference, organised by the Humanist Association of Ghana and sponsored by the IHEU, in Accra in November 2012, this will strengthen Ghana's position within the African Humanist network and help further promote humanism within Ghana.

Humanism is a godless philosophy that emphasis reason and compassion and it's significant that Ms Mould, herself a member of the Humanist Association of Ghana, should come to symbolise the growing rise of humanism and non-belief within Ghana.
