Labourer jailed for stealing

Accra, June 3, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old labourer to five years' imprisonment for stealing items worth over 255 million cedis.

The accused, William Abass pleaded guilty to the charge. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector E.T. Boison said the Manager of Triple A Enterprise detected that a quantity of printing materials were missing from the warehouse on May 4, 2004.

He said when the Manager confronted Abass he admitted taking some but not everything.

The accused was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Police and was charged with the offence after investigations. Abass explained that he credited the items to his usual customers, who refused to pay back. However, he admitted that he did not inform the Manager about the deal.
