Poised to resuscitate ailing industries in the state for sustainable economic and employment opportunities for the teeming youths, the Imo State government has completed the revitalization process of Avutu Poultry farm.

Briefing newsmen during the on the spot assessment of the farm, the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, expressed hope that with the coming on board of the farm, Okigwe zone and indeed, Imo State were in for major economic boom.

He stated that the 10,000 capacity bird farm is protected for an increase output of over one million birds by the end of this year, disclosing that the farm project was in line with the present administration's vision and promise to industrialize the state during the last general election in the state.

The Speaker further disclosed that to ensure the smooth running of the farm, the government has engaged the services of a South African firm to help boost local contents and satisfy demands.

According to him, 'This is a lofty project which is not only dear to Obowo people, but to Okigwe zone in particular and Imo State in general. The resuscitation of this farm, no doubt, will help launch this zone into the economic hub of the state, while our unemployment youth will have a cause to smile again'.

He however, expressed his appreciation to the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, for his passion and love to the Okigwe people, maintaining that the zone has benefited maximally from the present administration in all sectors of the state's economy.

Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, also enumerated other viable projects initiated by the Rescue Mission administration in the zone to include; the total transformation and renewal of Okigwe town to accord it the urban status, as well as the massive road constructions and rehabilitations being witnessed in all the Local Government Areas across the zone.

Other notable achievements of the present administration in the area, according to the Speaker include, the Ehime Mbano campus of the Imo State Polytechnic, The Imo State College of Education Technical, Ihitte Oboma, The newly constructed Obowo Modern market, as well as the newly sited low cost housing estate.

In an interview, some indigenes of the area who could not hide their joy thanked the Speaker for his visionary leadership and fore-sight in attracting legacy projects to the area. They attributed the coming back of the poultry farm to the cordial working relationship existing between the Governor and the Speaker, while pledging their total and unalloyed support in the administration's quest to make Imo State better.

It would be recalled that the famous Avutu poultry farm located in Obowo council area was the brain child of Late Chief Sam Mbakwe, the first civilian Governor of Imo State. Unfortunately, that vision to industrialize the state was short lived, as the farm was sold off following the insensitivity of successive government to sustain its operations, but was retrieved and rehabilitated by the present administration led by, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
