Guinea-Bissau's new prime minister announces resignation

Bissau (AFP) - Guinea-Bissau's new prime minister announced his resignation Wednesday, just two days after being sworn in as the west African nation's most powerful court declared his appointment unconstitutional.

"The president of the republic has just informed me the Supreme Court has declared my appointment as prime minister unconstitutional. Consequently, I resign the office," Baciro Dja told journalists after meeting head of state Jose Mario Vaz.

"I'm going to my office to formalise my decision."
