Nduom Backs Kufuor, Even ...

... After "NPP Stab In The Back" Energy Minister Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom says he will back President John Agyekum Kufuor in the 2004 presidential elections even though he will contest the parliamentary elections on the ticket of the Convention People's Party and not the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Nduom's reaffirmation of support for President Kufuor comes after a weekend when the NPP “stabbed him in the back” by electing a parliamentary candidate for the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abram (KEAA) which was thought to be Nduom's.

But Nduom who was roped into cabinet at the beginning of the NPP's administration has played down the election of Nana Ato Dadzie, DCE of KEEA as the NPP's parliamentary candidate.

He is still confident he will sweep the votes at the December polls and wrestle the seat which has traditionally been the stronghold of the NDC. Nduom lost in the last parliamentary elections to Ato Quarshie, a result which many people was triggered by the NPP to field a candidate alongside Nduom.

Nduom's declaration of support for President Kufuor and not CPP candidate George Aggudey will enrage those within the Nkrumahist Party who insist that Nduom's association with the NPP is working against the CPP's interest.

Nduom has stated repeatedly that he feels the CPP is incapable of winning the presidential elections and even suggested at a point that the party withdraw from the presidential race. He has adviced that CPP candidate George Aggudey should use his candidacy to organise the wards, structures in the CPP and offer the sort of visionary leadership the CPP requires to thrive.
