NPP Paints Tamale

Traders doing brisk business
THE NORTHERN Regional capital of Tamale was painted with the red, white and blue colours of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the weekend, when the party held its National Delegates' Conference in the city.

Every part of the city was alive with a kind of activity of the NPP, especially on Saturday when thousands of NPP delegates cast their votes to elect new party executives.

There was a huge number of NPP faithful in the city. The party's paraphernalia could also be seen at every nook and cranny of the regional capital.

Flags and banners with the red, white and blue colours as well as the elephant -the party's symbol – could be seen hanging on trees and electric poles along virtually all the principal streets of Tamale.

The conspicuous posters and banners of the 44 aspirants, who contested for various executive positions in the party, could also be seen pasted on the walls of some houses.

Indeed, everything in the city was about the NPP and nothing else. The congenial atmosphere that prevailed in the course of Saturday's Congress was ample evidence that true adherents of democracy were in the city for a big democratic assignment.

Apart from the banners, posters and the party flags, thousands of NPP faithful clad in party attires – drawn from all over the country and the Diaspora – were also seen at virtually every part of the city.

Some of the charged NPP supporters were usually sighted in groups, singing victory songs and confidently displaying the bold banners of their favourtite aspirants.

Everything in the area at the weekend was about the NPP, which from observation, was sending a strong signal to the other political parties, notably, those that claim Tamale belongs to them, that the main opposition party is ready to capture the area in 2016

But for the Thursday's bizarre shooting incident by unknown persons, but suspected to be members of the opposing side, which left nine people injured, the event would have been incident-free.
