G&J Technical contributes 300megawats to power generation

Mr. Asiedu & Prof Ampadu unveil the power generator

G&J Technical Services Limited is entering into partnerships with tertiary educational institutions in the country to support the training of students in electrical and mechanical engineering.

Students would also be offered internship opportunities, expected to empower them to contribute to power sufficiency in the country.

Managing Director, Godfrey Asiedu, says the firm is committed to contributing to infrastructure development to aid teaching and learning.

He says the wholly-owned Ghanaian company has for the past two decades provided alternative power solutions to businesses and corporate institutions in the country.

“We've so far done about 300megawats and this is about 75percent of the capacity of Bui Dam – which is 400megawats. So if we've put 300megawats into the system, what it means is that if ECG fails, 300megawats of power is available for people who have our generators to keep them working,” said Mr. Asiedu.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, G&J Technical, in partnership with its UK supplies, AJ Power Limited, has donated two sets of 10kVA diesel generator to the Accra Polytechnic and the College of Engineering, KNUST.

Provost of the College, Prof. Samuel Kofi Ampadu, says the donation would enhance the quality of training “to train the students on the mode of generation, then the different parts of the generator and the energy that comes out; how to harness it and integrate it into the main stream of generation.”

Prof. John Morrow of the Queens University, Belfast delivered a lecture on “Distributed Generation: Past, Present and Future” to expose the students to trends in generator engineering and technology.
