Police Denounces Politicization Of Arrests

The Ashanti Region Police Command has debunked claims that the recent arrest of six Dagomba men in Kumasi was based on political motivations.

The command says it is unfortunate that the arrest of the six men has been politicized and tribalized by a section of the public.

The Police in Kumasi last week arrested the six on suspicion that they possessed illegal arms and also engaged in acts that threatened the peace in Kumasi.

The arrest has generated some concerns among some political groups especially the opposition NDC.

The six are believed to be sympathizers of the NDC also belong to the Andani gate of the Dagbon traditional area.

Addressing a news conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional commander of Police, Assistant Commissioner Gyeabour said the Police arrested the men based on intelligence reports it received to the effect that they were engaged in acts that threatened the peace in the city.

Mr. Gyeabour confirmed that two of the suspects were carrying unlicensed arms when they were arrested. He assured the public that the Police will do all it can to secure the peace in the region and warned the public against politicizing the Police's actions.
