Health Alert: Beware Of Expired Goods At Christmas

It's yet another festive season and so many products related to Christmas is out there on the market, ranging from soft drinks, biscuits, alcoholic s,cakes and others both expired and unexpired ones. When it's Christmas some traders who are bent on making their life time money desperately from innocent buyers stock the market with expired products without thinking of the health implications.

Christmas hampers are items you can't easily turn away from, that is when it is easily packaged. We have hampers with drinks and biscuits which sell as low as GHC 2.00 and you are tempted to buy without even checking the manufacturing date and the expiring date.

These “Donkomi” products are sold on the road sides each and every blessed day!traders tag their products with very expensive prices and when it's about getting to expiring, they bring it out and sell it at kindergarten prices only for some people who can't read to buy them and the end the results is unprintable.

Just last week, a friend of mine in Kumasi told me about a hamper that he bought and all the products in the basket had only two weeks to it's expiry date! How many people have bought such hampers and are now suffering from stomach problems or other complications.

The Food and Drugs Authority should sit up and check these anomalies immediately before it gets out of hand. I know the FDA will complain of staff strength when it comes to such exercises, but we humbly urge them to please do something immediately.

We should celebrate Christmas in Peace and in good Health not in Sickness and Pain.
