Water supply restored at KATH

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has restored water supply to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), bringing relief to hospital officials.

A source at the hospital told the Daily Graphic yesterday that even though the supply had been slow, it was better and that clinical activities were going on smoothly.

Water supply to the hospital was disrupted last Tuesday when the electrical system at the Owabi and the Barekese headworks of the GWCL broke down.

Consequently, some planned surgical operations were rescheduled.

Other parts of Kumasi were also affected by the water shortage.

A Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Ashanti Regional GWCL office in Kumasi, Mr Haruna Asogli, told the Daily Graphic that the company was pumping water to KATH.

He stressed the need for KATH to have in place adequate reservoirs, so that in times of breaks in supply the hospital could easily fall on what it had stored.

Confirming the restoration of power to the two headworks, the Public Relations Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region, Mr Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, said, 'We have done our part by restoring power to the two stations.'

He stated that any problems of water shortage, therefore, could not be attributed to the ECG.
