Torgbui Fiti V ends investment tour of Canada

The Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Amenya Fiti V ended a two-week investment of Canada on Sunday October 20, 2003 following an invitation from Wellness Resources International, a resource and management company based in Toronto.

His visit was organized by the Senior Divisional Chief of Aflao in charge of development Torgbui Dunenyo Midadze I (aka Kodjo Peterson-Midadje) a banker and financial consultant, who is resident in Canada. During his brief stay in Toronto, Torgbui Fiti V signed two Memoranda of Understanding on behalf of the Aflao Traditional Area and two Canadian companies for the transfer of technology to the Volta Region of Ghana. He also met with the mayor of Windsor and presented him with a proposal from the people of Aflao to establish a twin-city sister relationship between the two border cities.

In the first agreement signed between the chief and Wellness Resources International the two parties agreed to pool resources together to develop a spa and a health resort village at Aflao. WRI will source out funding for the project and will be responsible for local management providing expertise and training for local labor. The project will provide employment for the people of Aflao and the Ketu district. The Aflao Traditional Area and Land Owners will provide the 200-acres of beach land needed for the project.

In another development, Torgbui Fiti signed a memorandum of understanding with Hygrex Technologies, a Canadian developer and manufacturer of closed loop drying systems, to provide technology and expertise in food processing. This technology is able to effectively dehydrate agricultural produce without using heat thus preserving nutritional value and extending shelf life for storage. This will also reduce post harvest losses and enhance export possibilities for the region and Ghana at large.
