WHO IS WHO?

Mr John Mahama (Born 29th November 1958) vrs Akuffo Addo (29th March 1944)

The presidential candidates of the two main political parties are campaigning vigorously to win the hearts and minds of Ghanaians.They have launched their manifestos which outlines their visions and plans to transform Ghana from a low middle income status to a full middle income status.One may ask who are these candidates?

Mr. John Dramani Mahama:

1.Education background:

Mr. Mahama graduated from university of Ghana with Bsc in History,University of Ghana (1981).He holds a Postgraduate Degree in Communication (1986) and also pursued further studies at the Institute of social science in Moscow.

2.Work experience in governance:

Mr John Dramani Mahama is currently the president of the republic of Ghana (July 2012).He assumed the office of the vice president since 2009 (2009-2012) and chaired Ghana Economic Management Team.Mr Mahama was a substantive minister of communication with an outstanding performance paving the way for liberalisation of our airwaves which further deepened the freedom of speech we are enjoying today in Ghana.Prior to that, he was the deputy minister of communication and a member of parliament at Bole Bamboi constituency for three consecutive terms.

3.Other work experience:

He worked as information,culture and research officer at Embassy of Japan,Accra.He also worked with an NGO, Plan International Relations as sponsorship,communication and grants Manager.He was the chairman of the National Communication Authority.

Mr Mahama was the founding member of Ghana AIDS commission and also deputy chairman of the publicity committee for the re-introduction of the value Added Tax(VAT).He has been the Champion of the underprivileged.

Nana Addo-Danquah Akuffo Addo
1.Education Background
Nana Akuffo Addo graduated from university of Ghana with Bsc in Economics.He trained as a lawyer in 1967.

2.Worked Experience in Governance.
Nana Addo served under Kuffour's government as minister of justice and also minister of foreign affairs.He was a member of parliament at Akyem Abuakwa on three consecutive terms.

3.Other Work Experience:

Nana worked with Associate counsel in Paris (1971-1975) and also with Junior Partner in 1979.

Nana Addo is the founder and first chairperson of the Ghana committee on Human and people's rights.

In 1995 he led 'Kumi Preko' demonstration against the introduction of Value Added Tax(VAT) which led to lost of four lives.He was involved in a bloodiest contest as an MP with his niece in 1996 which led to several casualties.In 2012 he made a popular war pronouncement 'ALL DIE BE DIE'.

Ladies and gentlemen, these are the two gentlemen contesting for the highest office of the president.Who in your opinion deserve this office?
