THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1st October 1987

Today marks the start of Black History month (BHM) in the United Kingdom (UK) when the Greater London Council (GLC) hosted Dr Maulana Karenga from the United States (US) to mark the contributions of Black people throughout history. BHM in the UK was initiated by Akyaaba Addai Sebbo when he worked for the (GLC).

The question always being posed is whether there should having BHM reinforces the marginalisation of African contribution to world history and development. Listen to the following debate:
