Church of Pentecost donates to Liberia refugees

Essipong (W/R), Sept. 9, GNA - The Takoradi Ridge District of the Church of Pentecost at the weekend presented second-hand clothing to Liberia refugees at the Essipong Camp, near Sekondi.

Elder E. Y. Torsco, who presented the clothing, said the items were the Church's widow's mite towards the upkeep of the refugees. He said the Church would soon come back with another donation to ensure that the refugees lived at the camp comfortably.

Elder Torsco appealed to all churches to continue to pray for peace in Liberia to enable the refugees to return to their country. He advised the refugees to be law-abiding and to refrain from using their plight to resort to armed robbery, stealing, fraud and other crimes against the very Ghanaians, who are catering for them.

"Do not misconstrue the hospitality of Ghanaians to mean their weakness. So long as you appreciate the efforts of Ghanaians towards your welfare we shall continue to come to your aid."

Receiving the clothing the Reverend R. Wilson, a Spokesman of the refugees, thanked the church and appealed to other churches and organisations to assist the refugees.

He said the refugees at the camp owed Ghanaians gratitude for all that they have been doing for them since their arrival at the camp some few months ago and prayed that God would continue to touch the hearts of many more Ghanaians to come to their aid.
