I'll Come Out With Reasons Soon - Prof. Frimpong Boateng

The outgoing Head of the National Cardiothoracic Center (NCC), Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng has hinted that he will come out with what he thinks are the real reasons why his honorary appointment at the NCC was terminated.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, he said “I am hoping to come out with the real reasons why the Minister of Health wrote that letter”.

He was reacting to the termination of his appointment as Honorary Director of the NCC at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital last week.

He said he knew there would be a time that he would hand over that office so he started preparing his handing over notes as the director for the center to his successor.

He however maintained that the manner in which his appointment was terminated was wrong, because handing over to his successor at the Center was al process.

On his future plans, he said that he would not take any decision that would not be in the collective interest of the nation and his patients.

There are those who have given a political twist to the reason why his appointment had been terminated but Prof. Boateng discounted that and said he did not read any political meaning to what had happened to him.

He recalled that the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party on his Listening Tour to the Ablekuma South Constituency barely two weeks ago visited the precinct of the Teaching Hospital where he had interaction with some of the working community as well as a cross section of the nurses.

He said even though the flag bearer of the NPP noted their numerous concerns and pointed out that the NPP in opposition did not have immediate solutions to resolve them, he nevertheless gave the assurance that the NPP in power would do its utmost best to solve some of the confronting challenges.

According to Prof Boateng, he did not think that could lead anyone to conclude that Nana Akufo Addo’s visit and interaction with the nurses were part of the reasons for his appointment to be terminated.

“It was a general thing; I don’t think this is political” he told the Daily Graphic.

Mr. Yieleh Chireh signed a letter dated Thursday 24 August, 2011 in which he asked Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng to, with immediate effect, consider his appointment terminated.

The dismissal has been met with scorn and protestations from the medical association with doctors at the Cardio Centre laying down their tools in solidarity with their sacked boss.

The doctors sent a petition to the President requesting that the then status quo be restored.

President John Mills after a thorough meeting with medical officers have resolved that Prof Fimpong Boateng must hand over administrative duties having passed the statutory age of 60 but cannot be stopped from providing his consultancy duties to the NCC.

A statement signed by the deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah said the president will all times respect the rule of law in carrying out his duties as president.
