TOR Catalytic Hasn't Collapsed

The $230 million Residual Fluidised Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) Plant at TOR has not collapsed, as is being speculated by some sections of the media.

According to the Deputy Managing Director of TOR in charge of Operations, Mr. R. B. Forson, the RFCC was temporarily shut down April 4, 2003 when some of the tubes in the Flue Gas Steam Generator started leaking, causing water to accumulate in it.

He said the problem had been rectified and the plant has been working since April 28. He argued that as a competent organization, it is the responsibility of TOR to carry out regular thorough checks on both the RFCC and the old plant and other equipment to ensure that their safety and that of workers is not endangered.
