A Book Presentation: Video Transcript
Below is a transcript from a video in Italian language, “Presentazione del libro - UNDERDEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA: My Hands Are Clean”, 8 January 2011, Verona, Italy.
“…The most important thing is that he is not saying there is no responsibility on the part of those who organised the transatlantic slave trade, colonialism and neo-colonialism. He is not saying that the underdevelopment in Africa is not the fault of the multinational corporations. It is not that he is renouncing all that we already believe. But then he said: 'Africans, what are we waiting for? Do we have to remain there, lamenting over slavery and colonialism? Do we have to remain in hunger because there are the multinationals? What are we doing; don't we have any fault in all that is happening?'…” Andre Basile, a Cameroonian guest speaker, at the presentation.
While this research might never be the general view of all people, I want to encourage everybody to take a look at the argument. Do you really think Africans should not be blamed for their social/economic underdevelopment?
I specially thank many individuals and institutions who have helped me to realise this research.
