Twenty youth in Mfantseman honoured for Excellence

Mankessim, April 12, GNA - Twenty youth in the Mfantseman Municipality were at the weekend awarded with certificates and citations for achieving excellence in their various fields of endeavour.

The award, the fourth in a series, was instituted by the FED Kastle Award Foundation, a Saltpond-based non-governmental organisation, formed in 2007 to recognise youth achievers in the Mfantseman Municipality.

In a speech, Mr. Francis Ejaku Donkoh, the Executive Director of the FED Kastle Group of Companies, expressed disappointment about the recent agitations by the youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in parts of the country.

Mr Ejaku Donkoh, who is also the Central Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) appealed to the other political parties to help the NDC to find solutions to the problems because the unrest could derail the nation's development progress.

He advised the youth to make the development of the nation their main concern and not to allow politics to divide them.

They should also involve themselves in the education on 2010 Population and Housing Census to ensure that reliable data is collected to facilitate the national development.

Mr. Kwabena Amankwa, a youth activist, said though they are designated as future leaders, the youth should not wait until for the future before they get involved in development programmes.

He urged the youth to let the institution of the award inspire them to work harder.

Mr Amankwa reminded the youth that without discipline there was nothing that they could achieve.

They should, therefore, stand up and address indiscipline in the society.

Mr. Amankwa exhorted the youth to change their bad attitudes for their elders to give them the needed recognition.

Mr. Reemans Osei Bonsu of the Municipal School Health Education Service, advised the youth against indulging in unprotected premarital sex to avoid teenage pregnancy and contracting sexually transmitted infections.

The awards were in the categories of Education, Health, Social Services, among others.
