Court jails driver's mate for stealing mobile phone

Asamankese, Jan. 16, GNA - A driver's mate, Bala Mohammed, who stole a mobile phone belonging to a driver, had been sentenced to three months in prison in hard labour.

Bala pleaded guilty.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Ben Brew, told the court that on January 11 a driver, Prince Ayensu, who was plying Nsawam to Asamankese got to Asuokaw, where Bala boarded the bus.

When the driver arrived at the Asamankese lorry station the convict stole the mobile phone, which was lying on the dashboard of the vehicle and attempted to flee.

The prosecutor said a woman in front of the seat saw the convict taking the phone and raised the alarm leading to his arrest.

He was sent to the police station and charged with stealing.

In passing the sentence the Judge said the court was dealing leniently with Bala because the phone was recovered.
