Fire reduces Foreign Affairs Ministry to ashes

The blaze is said to have engulfed the multi-storey building up to the 10th floor

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra has been reduced to ashes following an outbreak of fire, Wednesday evening.

It took more than two hours for fire fighters to bring the raging fire under control Joy News' David Yeoung said.

The ten-storey building has been downed leaving behind its "skeletal" remains.

There has been no serious casualty, except a debris falling on one of the fire-fighters. The victim, David Yeoung confirms, was rushed to hospital.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained even though initial reports point to an electrical fault.

David Yeoung said fire fighters have been tight-lipped at least for now.

This is the second time fire has engulfed a ministry building this year.

Earlier, it was portions of the Deputy Minister of Information's office which caught fire.
