Barber sentenced seven years for fraud
Kumasi, July 23, GNA - The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA)
Court on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old barber to seven years in jail for
defrauding a trader of GH¢2,000 under the pretext of helping her to reverse a
court's verdict slapped on her son.
Prince Frimpong pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Nana Adwoa Affanyi, told
the court presided over by Mr Adjei Frimpong that the complainant, Madam
Hannah Brefo is a trader at Abuakwa while the convict works at Toase in the
Ashanti Region.
In November 2007, the complainant's son was jailed by the Nkawie
Circuit.
Frimpong later introduced himself to Hannah the complainant as a friend of
the Judge and therefore could use his influence to get the sentence on her son
quashed.
Since she was convinced, Hannah gave away a total sum of
GH¢2,000 to facilitate the deal.
Police Chief Inspector said Frimpong could, however, not fulfill his
part of the contract, which aroused the suspicion of Hannah, who caused his
arrest.
Police investigations established that Frimpong did not have any
connections with the judge and he admitted collecting the money.
