Veep tours flooded communities in Central Region

Vice President John Mahama is touring communities in the Central Region flooded from persistent rainfall.

Some parts of the region have been cut off and several people rendered homeless.

The floodwaters have also washed away farms, damaged roads and caused rivers to burst their banks.

One person is reported to have died and several others wounded following the collapse of the bridge linking Apam and Mankessim.

Mr. Mahama's visit Thursday follows a similar one by President Mills to flood hit areas in Accra.

Joy News' Central Regional correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko, who travelled with the vice president said Mr Mahama toured areas worst hit by the floods and assured the people of government's support.

Meanwhile relief items are being dropped by helicopter to flood victims in the Western Region.

Nzema Akropong is one area completely cut off and residents there have moved to hilly parts of the village and deep into the forest.

A resident, Kweku Owusu Peprah of Radio Max in the Western Region reported that Nkroful, home town of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has also been hit badly.
