NGO calls for stable policy on SHS

The Movement for Youth, Peace and Development (MYPD), a non-governmental organisation on Tuesday called on government to provide a clear-cut policy on the duration of Senior High School (SHS) education in the country.

A statement signed by Mr Joseph Tetteh, Administrator of MYPD, expressed the NGO's disquiet about the unstable policy of SHS duration, which he said had the potential to throw the future of the students into jeopardy.

It noted that the frequent changes in the educational policy could also have psychological and emotional effects on students in their attempt to adjust to such dramatic and frequent changes.

“Today we are told it is three years, the next day it is changed to four years, only to be told moments after to revert to three years”, it said.

The statement welcomed the call by President John Evans Atta Mills in the State of the Nation's Address for a national forum on the duration of the SHS and appealed that such discussions should over ride political motives to arrive at a decision for the common good of all Ghanaians.
