Rousing welcome awaits Nana Addo on Sunday

REPORTS REACHING the Chronicle indicate that supporters of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2008 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are planning to troop to the Kotoka International Airport in their large numbers to give a rousing welcome to their hero. Nana is expected to touch down on Sunday from his European base.

Nana Addo, who has dispatched a team of party members led by Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey to the Northern Region to monitor the situation on the ground over the recent clashes in the area, according to our information, would be arriving at 7pm by a British Airways flight.

The Chronicle can report that the NPP guru would not pass through the VIP lounge, as he did when he left the shores of Ghana a few months ago, for a private visit with his wife, probably to take a rest after the crucial December 2008 general elections.

According to our information, the party members, who have remained in a pensive mood since this paper broke the story that Nana Addo will take the party's grievances and 'fight' to the doorsteps of President John Evans Atta Mills, are planning from all over the country to go and welcome Nana Addo on Sunday, as an indication that they have resolved to put their hopes in him, as he symbolises their aspirations of the party to achieve future electoral success. This paper gathered that the party members have planned what they described as a procession amidst brass band music, signing and dancing to welcome Nana Akufo-Addo, who they consider to be their messiah.

According to the party members, the arrival of Nana Akufo-Addo would bring them some hope since he would champion their course while in opposition, in the wake of the oppressions that some NPP members have gone through in the hands of some operatives at the castle.

Indications are that some placard wielding members of the welcome party, with inscriptions like 'Nana Addo our Messiah', 'Nana Addo, the obvious choice for 2012' and 'Nana Addo; unopposed candidate' among others, would be carried at the airport.

The party members have also planned to be at the airport by 5pm on Sunday, ahead of his scheduled arrival. Sources close to the camp of Nana Addo stated that the 2008 NPP Flag bearer would not pass through the VIP lounge to avoid any embarrassment from the current government.
