Mumuni, H Tetteh, S Aryittey, Haruna unfit for office

Alliance for Accountable Governance, a political pressure group, has indicated in a statement that four nominees designated for ministerial appointments by President J.E.A Mills are unfit to hold high public offices.

They are Hanna Tetteh, Minister designate for Trade and Industry, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister designate for Foreign Affairs, Haruna Iddrisu, Minister designate for Communications and Sherry Aryittey, Minister designate for Environment and Science.

AFAG has consequently appealed to the President to withdraw these nominees whose actions, conduct and behaviours do not befit the high offices of the land.

According to the group, Ms Tetteh was a Member of Parliament for Awutu-Afutu constituency from 2001 to 2005 and at the same time full-time employee of Ghana Agro Food Company.

 They contended that her conduct was unconstitutional and dishonourable because she drew salaries and other benefits from the Consolidated Fund of Ghana.

On Haruna Iddrisu, AFAG accused him of allegedly stealing the intellectual property of another person which was why he was stripped of his Masters Degree by the authorities of the University of Ghana, Legon.

"His conduct amounted to dishonesty of the highest order and it is our humble position that such a person is not qualified to hold the high office of a Minister of State,'" AFAG stated.

Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni has also been accused of financial improprieties by the Auditor-General, who in 2004 conducted forensic audit into the operations of the National Vocational Training Institute during the period the nominee was a Minister of Employment and Social Welfare in the NDC government.

The institute was under his purview when the state lost a colossal 15bn old cedis.

In the case of Sherry Ayittey, grave and adverse findings of financial impropriety as well as fraudulent behaviour and forgery had been made against her in an audit report of the Auditor-General in the Caridem transaction.

Meanwhile, Hannah Tetteh has threatened to sue members of the pressure group. They have also stated their preparedness to meet her for a legal battle.
