GLAHCO to spend US$15m to refurbish Golden Tulip Accra
GLAHCO Limited, Owners of Golden Tulip Accra, are investing US$15 million in the total refurbishment of the hotel's 234 rooms and supporting facilities.
The refurbishment and, reconfiguration works start on Monday, February 16, 2009. On completion, Golden Tulip Accra, which is the landmark investment of GLAHCO and one of the leading hotels in Ghana, will be a fully, up-to-date facility, in line with international specifications of the Golden Tulip Hospitality Group.
About 150 top clients of the hotel and other stakeholders were hosted at the Golden Tulip Accra poolside on Thursday, January 29, 2009 for a cocktail reception to celebrate the start of the project.
The Managing Director of GLAHCO, Mr. Abdulhamed Karrnus, noted that US$30tn had been invested in the Golden Tulip Accra since the take-over of the state-owned Hotel Continental in 1991.
Later in an interview, he named J+F Johnston Overseas Limited as the architects on the project with Consar Limited and Interior Consult as the respective contractors and interior designers of the three-phase exercise, which had been in the planning stages for two years,
The first phase is an eight-month refurbishment covering the Barbizon Wing, the lobby, excluding the reception area, the conference rooms, the Damba Lodge and the casino entrance, which will be relocated to the outside.
The second phase covers a six-month period involves the refurbishment of the Garden Wing the rest of the lobby and restaurant while the third stage, another six-month phase, would cover the Executive Block, the swimming pool and the chalets.
Mr Reiner Kappner, the General Manager, Golden Tulip Accra, informed his guests that the refurbishment would enable Golden Tulip' Accra to "face the competition and ensure a continued quality of product and service".
Apart from state-of-the-art hotel rooms, a new concept - the Branche Restaurant, Lounge and Bar- would be touched in line with the current international trends, Mr Reiner Kappner disclosed.
He gave the assurance that the three phase refurbishment exercise would be carried out in a careful designed programme that would as much as possible limit inconvenience for guests.
