Suspected Phone Thief Shot Dead

A SUSPECTED mobile phone thief has been shot dead at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The man whose identity was not known at the time of his death is said to be one of those regular faces at this bustling part of the nation's capital during such wee hours.

An eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that the deceased met his fate when he went to buy him Indian hemp from a lady who sells the stuff in the Circle area.

“He picked the gadget left behind by the lady as she went to fetch the stuff from where she had hidden it. As soon as he saw the gadget he picked it and began running away,” the eyewitness said.

Some persons at the scene gave him a chase as they ordered him to stop but he continued to run towards the fountain.

A policeman who chanced upon the scene joined in the pursuit but eventually resorted to his pistol when the suspected thief refused to stop.

The policeman, who said he is attached to the Castle, fired the thief but he managed to run for a while and finally fell down.

The policeman conveyed the corpse to the Police Hospital mortuary.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed the story.
