Ghanaians urged to let the tenets of Christmas guide them

Reverend Barima Appiah-Dankwa, Nsukwao District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has called on Ghanaians to let the tenets of Christmas guide them as they prepare to cast their vote on Sunday December 28, 2008.

Christmas stands for peace, he said and added that it was the period that Jesus Christ came to the world to save mankind from sins, which eventually brought peace to the world.

Rev. Appiah-Dankwa made the call at a sermon on Christmas Day at the Calvary Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Nsukwao, a suburb of Koforidua.

He commended supporters of all the political parties on the mature manner they conducted themselves during and after the first round of the general elections on December 7, 2008.

Rev. Appiah- Dankwa, therefore, urged leaders of the two major political parties contesting the run-off to continue to educate their followers on the need to ensure peace.

He said this year's Christmas brings to us reconciliation, peace-making and forgiveness which all must endeavour to expound.

Rev. Appiah- Dankwa said the festive should not be seen as a period of eating and drinking alone, but be used to reflect on the past and assess which areas we fell short and the parts that needed improvement.

He said followers of Christ owed it a duty to promote peace which required that all Christians must devote some time to pray to God about the nation.

Rev Appiah-Dankwa cautioned political leaders against ethnocentrism, which according to him breeds division.
