PNC Leader Calls On Nayiri

The king of Mamprugu, Nayiri Bohagu Mahami Sheriga, has tasked chiefs to caution their subjects not to engage in any violent act during and after the December 7 polls.

That, he said, was crucial, since there was a potential for violence in the elections if Ghanaians were not advised to be tolerant of one another.

The Nayiri gave the advice when the presidential candidate of the People's National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama, paid a courtesy call on him.

Dr Mahama was in Nalerigu, as part of his final leg of campaign. He was accompanied by the National Women's Organiser of the PNC, Hajia Hajara Ali.

The Nayiri stressed the need for Ghanaians to go through the elections in an atmosphere of peace.

He said Ghanaians needed to keep the peace in the country to continue to win commendation from the world.

He wondered why Ghanaians could not maintain the peace after the attainment of independence.

According to him, the Mamprugu never fought the colonial authorities because they entered into an agreement with them, hence his abhorrence of violence.

The Nayiri asked chiefs in the northern part of the country to preach peace to their subjects, since they were all one people with a common destiny.
