2 Groups Clash At Yendi Again

Tension is mounting in the Yendi municipality following a clash yesterday between supporters of the incumbent MP, Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu Malik, and independent candidate, Mohammed Mahammud Arado.

Sources close to the Yendi police confirmed this to the Times, saying that two persons sustained gun shots wounds in the clash.

The two who are on admission at the Yendi hospital, are said to be responding to treatment.

Yesterday's clash is about the third in the municipality.

An eye witness told the Times that but for the timely intervention of a combined team of police and military, there would have been a blood bath.

According to him security personnel dispatched to the scene had a tough time dispersing the combatants.

He said residents were compelled to sleep earlier than usual as the security personnel beat up anyone they came across.

Though the police in Yendi are tight-lipped over the clash, a reliable source hinted that the police were to meet leaders of the two groups over the growing tension between them.

The two groups have, on a daily basis been trading insults since the two men filed their nomination papers for the parliamentary election.
