Clergyman blames poor academic performance on indiscipline

Reverend Alexander K. Nyantakyi, the Minster of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Akim Oda, said poor academic standards in the country was partly due to indiscipline among students.

He cited alcoholism, drug abuse, hooliganism, indecent dressing and behaviour, absenteeism among others as problems militating against effective teaching and learning.

Rev. Nyantakyi, who is also Akim Oda District Director of Presbyterian Schools, said these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Saturday at Akim Oda.

He said inadequate number of teachers and infrastructure in schools also affected the development of education.

Rev. Nyantaky called on government to ensure regular in-service training for teachers, especially those in the rural areas to enable them to upgrade their skills and knowledge.
