Recalcitrant driver on Police wanted list fined GH¢1,080

Michael Antwi, a commercial driver noted for committing various traffic offences and who has been on the Police wanted list for almost a year, has been arraigned and fined 1,080 Ghana Cedis.

The driver, who is said to have often managed to escape when arrested and had sometimes assaulted the Police with his friends when asked to drive his vehicle to the Police Station, also had no licence for driving.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. He would go to jail for six months in default.

Antwi pleaded for mercy, saying he was repatriated to Ghana from the United Kingdom and did not have money to process his driving documents.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Janet Oseiwaah, told the Court presided over by Mr Eric Baah that Antwi normally plied within areas such as Asawase and the Airport Roundabout, all in Kumasi.

He was arrested during normal Police road checks and was arraigned on the same day.
