NGO visits Free Tsatsu campaign

Members of the Free Tsatsu Tsikata Campaign have interacted with members of the Waves International, a youth oriented non-profit organization.

A statement issued in Accra by the Campaign said the interaction was part of its programme to sensitize the youth about the basic facts and events that led to the “unjust incarceration” of the former GNPC boss, Tsatsu Tsikata and to explain to them why he was innocent and should not be in prison.

It said, Mr Tony Lithur, a leading member of the Campaign, took the youth through the basic facts of the case and explained the legalities of the trial.

Tsikata was jailed for five years for wilfully causing financial loss and misapplication of public funds.

He said Tsikata did not cause any financial loss to the state, because up till today, the Attorney General Department had not been able to evaluate the shares that GNPC had in Valley Farms.

Mr. Lithur said there could only be a loss if GNPC’s shares in the farms were less than the money that was used for guaranteeing the investment.

Another member of the Campaign, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr., said: “Ghanaians must build a society based on justice, fair play and the rule of law. We need to ensure that those who are in prison are not the innocent ones whiles those outside the prisons are not the guilty ones.”

He told the young people that Tsikata had not stolen any money or caused any financial loss to the state. Instead he dedicated himself to the cause of oil exploration in the country and the current oil discovery was a result of his hard work.

He said if Tsikata was in jail because he guaranteed for Valley Farms, without any other person or the Board of Directors raising an objection to it, means that the check and balance system was absent and this should be the
concern for everyone.

Ms. Esther Cobbah, wife of Tsikata, expressed regret that up till today, he had not received a copy of the forensic audit report based on which he was charged.
