For failing to attend assembly meetingsObuasi MCE cautions Heads of Departments...But Denkyira MCE happy with teachers
The acting Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, has expressed concern over the refusal by of heads of departments to attend the sitting of the assembly.
“I have observed with dismay and consternation, that the attendance of Heads of Departments at the Assembly meetings leaves much to be desired.
“The trend observable is that, Heads of Departments report for meetings, and write their names as having reported, and depart never to return,” he said, in a letter written to the affected heads of departments.
It explained further that in the scheme of things, Heads of Departments were the technical wing of the assembly, and in that respect, they were to provide vital information and expert advise, to enable the assembly take informed decisions, adding “when this vital link is missing, the assembly may take decisions, which may not stand the test of time.”
The acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who is also the Ashanti Regional Minister, said he was, by the letter, warning all heads of departments at the assembly, who indulged in that act, to stop.
“In the circumstance, I am compelled to issue a warning to all Heads of Departments, who indulge in the obnoxious habit to change, otherwise I will be compelled to evoke the necessary sanctions,” the letter stressed.
Meanwhile, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Nana Asirifi Asare II, has asked for peaceful co-existence amongst members of the assembly.
Delivering his welcoming address, at the assembly's emergency meeting held last Thursday, he said since development thrived on such peaceful environments, it was important for the members to live in unity.
He pleaded with members to always use assembly meetings to express their views, so that collectively, they could find solutions to them.
While calling for unity, understanding and respect amongst members, he appealed to them to try as much as possible, to guard against acts that could undermine the assembly's developmental efforts.
In another development, the Upper Denkyira East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Richard Anane Adabor, has advised Basic School pupils to live healthy lifeclasss, to avoid contracting diseases.
He said if children inculcated in themselves the spirit of cleanliness and healthy lifeclasss, environmental-related deaths would be reduced, to boost the nation's human resource base.
The MCE, who made this known when he toured selected schools in the Municipality, charged the pupils to always ensure that their surroundings were kept clean.
He advised the pupils to take their education seriously, and obey the teachers, adding “that is the only way to greatness.”
Mr. Anane Adabor urged thepupils to take advantage of the introduction of the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme, and learn hard to become useful citizens in future.
Mr. Adabor, who was accompanied by some officials of the Ghana Education Service in the municipality, distributed, caps, drinks, biscuits and sweets to pupils.
He lauded the teachers in the various schools, for their commitment to duty, and urged them to work hard to improve the standard of education in Denkyira.
