Ex-Teacher Gets Prison For Eloping, Sleeping With 13-Year-Old Student

A judge in Nebraska found a 26-year-old former Math teacher immature for taking her 13-year-old pupil on a sexual escapade and sentenced her to six years in prison on Monday.
With U.S. District Judge Laurie Smith Camp's verdict, Kelsey Peterson still has four years to serve deducting the one year she spent in jail waiting for her trial. She could be free in three years if she behaves well.
However, Dawson County prosecutors also plan to charge Peterson with kidnapping, felony sexual assault and child abuse.
Peterson was teaching math to six graders at Lexington Middle School during the 2005-06 school year when she started wooing a 12-year-old illegal immigrant student in her class. The started having sex in November 2006.
When the liaison was discovered by the school's superintendent, the two eloped to Mexico in October last year. Their location was traced when the boy made a call to her mother and Peterson was arrested a week later.
The student is now 14 and an 8th grader at another Nebraska school.
