Boy, 15, Dies In Freak Accident

A 15-year-old boy met his death when a Neoplan bus with registration number GT 7523R ran over him at Mango Line, MaCarthy Hill.

An eyewitness told reporters that at about 5.30 p.m. on Monday, he saw the bus from Kasoa heading towards Mallam Junction at top speed.

When it got to Mango Line, sellers on the pavement signalled to the driver to slow down but before he could do so he lost control of the vehicle, knocked down the boy who was sitting on the pavement. He died instantly.

The eyewitness said at that instance, the driver and his mate fled the scene but the driver later reported to the police.

The driver, Kwabena Paul, told reporters that he was from Takoradi heading for Accra, but when he got to Mango Line at McCarthy Hill, the vehicle burst one of the back tyres.

He said he tried to slow down but because there was heavy traffic on the road, he applied his brakes and in the process, lost control of the vehicle.

The Odorkor Motor Trafic Unit confirmed the story and said the accident was the result of over speeding and the driver is in police custody pending investigations.
