Fire Guts La District Police Station

Fire has gutted the La District Police Headquarters and Police Station, destroying property running into millions of cedis.

An air conditioner, computer, refrigerator, and cabinets among others were completely destroyed.

The district commander, DSP Richard Gyebi, told the Times in Accra, that it took Fire Service personnel from the Trade Fair Fire Station and the community members about 45 minutes to put out the fire.

He said 11 remand prisoners in the cells had been transferred to the Nungua Police Station for safety.

DSP Gyebi dismissed suggestion of foul play, saying that investigations were ongoing to find out the cause.

He said he is now operating in a make – shift office.

He commended people in the community for assisting the police and Fire Service personnel to put out the fire.

When Times visited the scene the debris of the gutted office were still there.
