Nii Ashitey Contests Klottey-Korle NDC Seat
An Accra legal practitioner, Nii Armah Ashitey, has made known his intention to contest the Klottey-Korle parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said the decision to context the election was informed by the call to service by the people, which “I could not ignore”.
Speaking to some NDC delegates in Accra yesterday, Nii Armah Ashitey asked them to give him the nod at the primaries and the road would be clear all the way to Parliament.
He said the Klottey-Korle Constituency seat had always been for the NDC and assured the people that he had the ability to capture the seat once again from the NPP.
Nii Armah Ashitey, who is also a trade unionist and politician, said he had served as a Chief Executive of the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) for eight years building an impressive track record and gave the assurance that he would work harder to achieve more for the people.
Nii Ashitey said he had remained a loyal, dedicated member of the great party and would ensure that the Klottey-Korle seat reverted to the NDC.
“To take the seat however, we need somebody who is capable, tried and tested, has track record , charisma and special appeal like me,” he told his audience, adding that it was the urge to serve his people that was driving him towards going to Parliament.
Nii Ashitey said once given the mandate, he was determined to work hard to meet the aspiration of the people in the area of education, health, housing and other aspects of economic development.
“As a lawyer, I will surely bring my experience to bear on the centre of our plans, programmes and policies in Parliament,” he assured party members.
The 58-year-old Nii Ashitey is a social science graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology, obtained the Qualifying Certificate in Law (QCL), University of Ghana, Legon, before reading for his BL degree at the Ghana School of Law, Accra.
As a member of the Ghana Bar Association, Nii Armah Ashitey is also Africa's Representative, Fair Practices and Maritime Policy Committee of International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and International Maritime Organisation/International Labour Organisation (IMO/ILO) Joint Committee on Maritime Training.
In another development, the Klottey-Korle Constituency Secretary, Mr Eben Mash Turkson, has said that Mr R. S. A. Kwaku, a retired banker, is a former Chairman of the constituency and not the substantive chairman.
According to Mr Turkson, Mr Kwaku was succeeded by Nii Armah Ashitey, who has resigned to contest the NDC primaries, leaving Ms Emelia Holme, the first vice-chairperson, as the acting chairperson of the constituency.
