Agbeko Worthy Of Reward By Govt - Fobih

Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Prof. Dominic Fobih, says the government has every reason to reward IBF Bantamweight champion, Joseph 'King Kong' Agbeko, since he has brought Ghana honour.

This was when the world champion paid a courtesy call on him at the ministry.

“This is a wake-up call for all of us to start concentrating all our attention and resources on other disciplines because the nation has abundant talents. This is definitely a moment of pride for all Ghanaians. We will surely offer our support to Agbeko so that he can win more titles in future,” he said.

In his response, Agbeko thanked the Government and people of Ghana for their support, saying “this title is my special birthday present for mother Ghana on the occasion of her 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.”

Present at the short ceremony were the Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, and Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Chief Director for Sports Development at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.

Agbeko at a date to be set, will present the title belt to President Kufuor at the Castle.
