Ghanaian Student Tops All

A student of the KNUST Senior Secondary School in Kumasi, Ms Edem Doreen Akua Asimadu has won the first prize in an essay competition organised to mark Human Rights Day last year.

The competition was jointly organised by the United Nations (UN) Departments for Public Information Economic and Social Affairs and the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Ms Asimadu's essay was selected out of 700 entries from the African Region for ages 13-15. Her topic was “Poverty is a Consequence of Human Rights Violations.”

She will be presented with her prize at her school today, Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
