¢467m spent on prisons HIV/AIDS project

The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana has spent ¢467 million towards the HIV/AIDS project for the Kumasi Central Prisons and Manhyia Prisons in the Kumasi Metropolis over the last three years.

The benefits of the project include periodic education, sensitisation and counselling for both the inmates and the prison officers as well as providing them with drugs and other materials.

Mrs. Elsie Ayeh, Middle Zone Manager of the PPAG, said this at a workshop organized by the PPAG for 20 prison officers and other stakeholders in Kumasi.

It aimed among others at identifying problems militating against the project and come out with effective and pragmatic measures to improve and sustain it.

She said the project has brought about awareness among the inmates and their officers on HIV/AIDS.

Mrs Ayeh said Amanfrom Prisons Settlement Farm has been added to the project and has allocated to it additional ¢182 million.
