Edward Mitole chats to his daughter Aisha

My first born daughter, Aisha, engages me on the subject of MA’AT (Mathematics).

Daughter: Dad, I remember this other day you introduced me to the concept of Ma’at and you said that Ma’at is the Goddess of Truth. I am reading the Bible and I can’t find Ma’at.

Edward Mitole: I’m afraid you can’t find Ma’at in the Bible. African spirituality is centered on the principle of harmony as truth. Other religions define truth as agreeing with words written in corrupted books. In African spirituality, truth is not defined by any words in books. Instead, it is defined by the presence of harmony. Harmony is that which doesn't bring harm to others.

Daughter: And why do you say that Mathematics originates from the word ‘Ma’at’?

Edward Mitole: The Ancient sages of Africa's Nile Valley deified this concept into the deity Ma'at (known as Iwa in West Africa). The order of Ma'at's truth was so consistent in calculation, Her name became the etymological origin of Ma'ath/ Math. Harmony/truth is mathematical in its precision. It is the order of the universe.

Daughter: Wow. This is mind blowing!
Edward Mitole: It is for this reason that the pyramid builders described Ma'at as the symbolic mother and daughter of the Supreme Being Amen-Ra. In other words, Harmony/Truth is what gives birth to the Creator like a mother, and continues His legacy like a daughter. The ancestors even described Ma'at as the Creator's food, that which brought Him nourishment. They said the role of human beings is to feed Ma'at (harmony/truth) to Amen-Ra.

Daughter: Is this the reason why you can’t stop preaching Ma’at?

Edward Mitole: Remember, Truth cannot exist in silence. It must be spoken and performed continuously, and spread until it takes over the world with its wings. All praises to Ma'at, Mother and Daughter of the Supreme Being.

Daughter: Thank you superdad. You are my Heru !
