BOLTECH Holds Inter-Houses

House Five put up a splendid performance and amassed 186 and half points to emerge winners at the 22nd Annual Inter-Houses Athletics competition of the Bolgatanga Technical Institute (BOLTECH), held at the school's sports field last weekend.

Five other houses, namely houses One, Two, Three, Four and Six competed with house Five for laurels in field and track events.

In the boys competition, though they did not win the overall trophy after putting up a good fight, House Four had 110 points to lift that trophy.

The second, third and fourth positions were respectively taken by Houses Five, Six and Three with 102, 101 and 72 points, while houses Two and One bagged 66 and 53 points to place fifth and sixth respectively.

The girls competition also saw houses One, Three and Five amassing 100, 95 and 84 points to place first, second and third, respectively.

The fourth, fifth and sixth positions were respectively won by houses Two, Four and Six with 85, 68 and 57 points.

Overall, House Five was fantastic and got 186 and half points to win the contest, while House Four came second with 178 points.

Houses Three and One placed third and fourth respectively with 167 and 153 points.

Houses Six and Two trailed at the bottom placing fifth and sixth respectively after recording 152 and half and 151 points.

Anaba Benjamin of House Five outclassed his opponents in all the events he competeted in to emerge as the Overall Best Athlete in the boys' category.

He won the long jump, triple jump and the 200 meters race. He also broke House Three's Mohammed Sadat 11.67 meters record in 2004 in the triple jump.

House Five's Akamyelba Dora was crowned the Overall Best Athlete for girls after she placed first in discuss and second in javelin.

Two other records were also broken in the competition. Dorothy Ameyma of house Four threw a distance of 7.59 meters in short putt to break House Two's Musah Ramatu's record of 7.20 meters which was set in 2003.

Vincent Akansake of House One threw a distance of 29.05 meters in discuss to break House Five's Jonathan Adongo's record of 29.05 meters which was set in 2004.

In a closing remark, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Martin Aloara, advised the students to eschew all forms of indiscipline in their academic and sports pursuits.

He urged them to work and train harder to enable them to win laurels for the school in the upcoming inter-schools athletics competition.
