A presidential staffer has defended President Nana Akufo-Addo's decision that forced former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo out of office following heightened criticism and a Supreme Court ruling that described as unconstitutional.

Samuel Bryan Buabeng, in a tweet on May 31, stated that the President had nothing personal against Mr Domelevo and was simply following a precedent set by former President Prof. Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.

The presidential staffer noted Prof. Mills once directed Prof. Dua Agyeman, who was Auditor-General at the time, to proceed on accumulated leave.

Mr Buabeng also cited Mr Domelevo's multiple dates of birth held at SSNIT, saying that President Akufo-Addo could not be blamed for his action.

“Nothing new. We have been here before. The highly opaque think tank heads shouldn’t forget there was a precedent and that was set by Prof Mills, he directed Prof Dua Agyeman to proceed on accumulated leave when he was Auditor-General.

“That is the precedent the current administration followed. President Nana Akufo-Addo had nothing personal against Domelevo. He cannot be blamed for the multiple dates of birth that Domelevo held at SSNIT,” read his tweets.
