3-Month Baby In Prison

Ama Darkoah, a bouncing three-month old baby girl, has for the past ten days been incarcerated in the Nsawam Medium Prisons through no fault of hers. An Anyinam Magistrate Court on Thursday January 11, 2007 sentenced her mother, Ms Ama Oforiwaa, a 28-year-old trader, to two weeks imprisonment for allegedly insulting her paternal grandfather.

Peter Ofori Darko, alias Ofori Pee, an Osino-based lotto receiver who dragged her daughter, Oforiwaa, to court for allegedly insulting him, confided in some relatives that his motive of going to court was to teach his daughter a big lesson.

When the court finally found Oforiwaa guilty, even though she had vehemently denied ever insulting her father, and slapped a two-week sentence on her, baby Darkoah had no option than to go to jail with her mother.

D. Guide reliably gathered that the baby recently took ill in the prisons and had to be rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital.

Observers say it is a typical case of the Biblical parable of the fathers eating sour grapes and the children's teeth being set on edge. She is expected to 'regain' her freedom this Thursday, but residents of Osino say this is the first of its kind in the annals of their history.
