Unilever Informs Trade Min. On Uncustomised Goods

Unilever Ghana Limited says it has informed the Ministry of Trade and Industry about uncustomed goods on the Ghanaian market and the debilitating impact on the local manufacturing industry.



Speaking in an interview with Ghananewstoday, the Chief Executive Officer of Unilever Ghana, Mr Charles Coffie said the presence of these goods on the local market if not checked, could ground some manufacturing firms.

Already, some manufacturing entities have announced the closure of their plants.

A reference case is that of the British American Tobacco, which has announced the closure of its factory in Takoradi and is set to decommission its plant.

The imported goods which include electrical goods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, rice and biscuits, from Asia, Europe and America has evaded government taxes denying government access to the full duties to be levied on these imports.
