Effutu NDC accuses NPP of overpoliticising, wearing of party T-shirts at ECOWAS session in Winneba

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) party branch in the Effutu Constituency has condemned what it describes as the overpolitisation of the ECOWAS session in Winneba, Western Region.

A maiden organization of ECOWAS parliamentary meeting is being held in Winneba this week with the Parliament of Ghana being a key sponsor of the event.

According to the Effutu NDC, it has observed with keen eyes and share reservations about the conduct of the political initiators of the programme.

According to the party, the programme has been politicised especially with the wearing of T-Shirts of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well as the display of other materials of the ruling governing party.

“Further worried we are as a party, is the over politicization of the session, which has not been the case in previous times in other West African nations. The wearing of NPP political party's T-shirts and paraphernalia, obviously whittles the unity, beauty and motive behind the organization of the session in Winneba.

“We perceive what we have noticed so far in the constituency as a political event than an ECOWAS parliamentary session to discuss, debate and deliberate on policies that affects the wellbeing of the ordinary West African citizen,” a statement from the NDC in Effutu shared on Wednesday.

As the meetings continue, the Effutu Constituency NDC is calling on stakeholders to intervene to check the conducts of political actors and the future consequences of their ill-motives, which wasn't the situation before their assumption of office.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE EFFUTU CONSTITUENCY OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ON THE OCCASION OF THE ORGANISATION OF ECOWAS PARLIAMENT IN WINNEBA.

We have become aware as a political party in the Effutu constituency, about the maiden organization of ECOWAS parliamentary meetings in our constituency, Winneba. As we welcome all members of the august ECOWAS parliament to Winneba, and wish them a peaceful stay, we, as a party, wishes to share reservations about the conduct of the political initiators of the program in Winneba.

Our understanding is that the Parliament of Ghana is a key sponsor of the event, and since this is a parliamentary meeting, the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament would be the key personality profiled to headline the event.

However, the conspicuous absence of the current Ghana's Speaker of Parliament, Right Honorable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, relative to the publicity and deserving recognition of the relevant dignitaries of the meeting in the Effutu constituency, is one that should engage the thoughts of right thinking members of Ghanaian society. The principle of separation of powers and its integral essence in democratic governance, raises legitimate questions on the motive behind the deliberate public absence of the incumbent Speaker of Ghana's parliament from the event.

Further worried we are as a party, is the over politicization of the session, which has not been the case in previous times in other West African nations. The wearing of NPP political party's T-shirts and paraphernalia, obviously whittles the unity, beauty and motive behind the organization of the session in Winneba. We perceive what we have noticed so far in the constituency as a political event than an ECOWAS parliamentary session to discuss, debate and deliberate on policies that affects the wellbeing of the ordinary West African citizen.

Moreover, recent events in the Effutu constituency, which are engineered by the political managers of Winneba, deserves immediate attention. The massive importation of voters from the neighboring constituencies into the Effutu constituency, to register and vote during the 2020 elections, to undeservedly win power, the use of brute force to encroach on the lands of some Effutu citizens under the guise of compulsory acquisition; the wilful denial to disallow a duly elected Assembly member to represent his electorates(Odonkonyanmu/Obra Wogum) at the local district Assembly; the formation of another masquerade group(Number 6) to compound a pending dispute in the organization of masquerade festival in Winneba, are too necessary to be ignored.

Mindful of the collective desire by us and all participants and partakers in the ECOWAS parliamentary sessions and the purpose it seeks to achieve; we wish to inform and seek the intervention of all stakeholders on the conducts of the political actors in Winneba and the future consequences of their ill-motives, which wasn't the situation before their assumption of office.

In the meantime, we are by this statement calling on the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, to render an unqualified apology to the Right Honorable Alban Bagbin, and the entire Parliament of Ghana, for the gross contempt displayed towards his person and the representatives of the good people of Ghana. We are also calling on the NDC delegation in ECOWAS Parliament, to raise the issue, and to have it addressed.

Effutu is in disarray and deserves better.

Thank you.

Long Live Effutuman!

Long Live Ghana!!

Long Live West Africa!!!
